Congratulations to Arthur Georges on his election to the Australian Academy of Science. His election to this prestigious academy is in recognition of his contribution to our understanding of the ecology, evolution and mechanisms of sex determination in reptiles.
A short video vignette prepared by the Academy provides an overview of this research.
"This is a great honour and it is a privilege to become a member of this premier learned academy", Prof. Georges said. "Of course, you can only achieve your best because of the people around you, the wonderful students, postdoctoral fellows, staff and top-level collaborators. This is recognition of the hard work and inspirational thinking of the full team that contributed to this work. It is a truely outstanding team have worked so well together to deliver on the discoveries we have made".
Our research has taken us from the field to the laboratory, from emirical studies to insightful modelling, and from the mechanims of sex determination to the implications of these mechanisms for understanding of the ecology, evolytion and conservation of this fascinating group of vertebrates.
We lead those interested in this work through our publications on our Ecology, Evolution and Genomics of Sex page .
